From Words to Image: Visualizing Paremias (4/13)
This workshop explores how language, especially colloquial expressions and proverbs (paremias), can be transformed into visual art.

Participants will select a phrase from their own culture or daily life and develop it into a conceptual sketch or painting. The session focuses on storytelling, symbolism, and composition as tools to translate language into imagery.

Gilberto Alexis Pérez Ramírez, known as Akafily, is a Dominican-born visual artist based in New Jersey. His work explores language, identity, and cultural expression through the use of Dominican paremias and figurative imagery. He has exhibited in solo shows such as Despegue (2021), EnVuelo (2022), and Pilot (2023), and is currently an artist in residence at Guttenberg Arts.
