Women In Print Latin America Panel Discussion at The 8th Floor, Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation May 19 2016

Women In Print Latin America Panel Discussion at The 8th Floor, Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation May 19 2016

Through an open and wide-ranging conversation, the panel will examine the growing cultural impact of women-run institutional departments and studio practices. The panel will also explore issues surrounding, but not limited to: politics and material use; themes of displacement, migration, and dislocation; identity construction and otherness; and the relationships between labor, domesticity, and gender and how these issues are integrated into a movement towards highly experimental projects that challenge traditional notions of craft. Panelists include: Rocio Aranda-Alvarado, Curator at El Museo del Barrio; Dr. Iria Candela, Estrellita B. Brodsky Curator of Latin American Art Modern and Contemporary at The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Christina De León, Associate Curator in Visual Arts at the Americas Society; Joiri Minaya, Artist-in- Residence at Guttenberg Arts, Winter 2016 and recent winner of a Joan Mitchell Award for Emerging Artists; and Juana Valdes, Artist-in-Residence at Guttenberg Arts, Summer 2015.

Women In Print Panel Discussion at IPCNY with PowArts 4/22/15

Women In Print Panel Discussion at IPCNY with PowArts 4/22/15

This new dialogue brings together female artists, curators and directors to discuss issues of media advancements that rewrite women into the history of technology through printmaking, the cultural force of women-run print shops and institutional departments as well as their impact and the movement towards highly experimental print projects that are rebelling against traditional notions of the printmaking craft that are all driven by women in print today. Featuring Rocío Aranda-Alvarado (Curator, EL Museo del Barrio), Judith Brodsky (Founder of the Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions at Rutgers), Jennifer Farrell (Associate Curator, Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art), Dusica Kirjakovic (Executive Director, Lower East Side Printshop), Kristen Schiele (Artist/KAYROCK printing), Dannielle Tegeder (Artist/Associate Professor of painting at CUNY/Lehman College). Moderated by Caitlin Masley-Charlet (Deputy Director, Guttenberg Arts)

Photography Lecture and Slide Presentation with Seniors: Elisabeth Smolarz 3/1/15

Photography Lecture and Slide Presentation with Seniors: Elisabeth Smolarz 3/1/15

Following the long tradition of the self-portrait (today’s selfie) participants will learn about lighting techniques using day light and composition in the available environment. After a short introduction to camera basics the participants learn about the appropriate camera angels, face and body positions as well as styling before they start photographing themselves and each other. The goal is to take 20 - 40 photographs of one portrait. The photoshoot is followed with an introduction to editing techniques and and a critique of the final image.
