texas hold'em PrizeS INCLUDE: Tree of Hope Woodblock print by Justin Sanz

Our first place winner will receive a hand printed woodblock on paper titled 'Tree of Hope' by Justin Sanz.

The Tree of Hope was an elm tree rubbed for luck by up-and-coming entertainers before they performed at the Lafayette Theater during the Harlem Renaissance. It was chopped down in 1934 when Seventh Avenue was widened but the stump was saved by the Apollo Theater in Harlem, where it continues to be rubbed for luck before performers enter the stage.

Justin Sanz is a Brooklyn-based artist and the studio manager of the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in Manhattan, NY. "All of my work stems from my love of humanity and displays hope that we as a unified species will choose an ethical path to prosperity." Please visit www.justinsanz.com
